Oamaru Blue Penguin Colony

17 Waterfront Road, South Hill, Oamaru

Main Oamaru Blue Penguin Visitor Centre JDBuilders

The Oamaru Blue Penguin Colony is deeply committed to penguin conservation. Originally established on a former rock quarry site, the colony focuses on protecting, researching, and rehabilitating little blue penguins and other species. They provide nesting boxes, trap predators, and minimise human disturbance.

Their research lab supports penguin monitoring, while the rehabilitation facility cares for injured birds. Educational initiatives and community collaborations, such as creating a safe underpass for penguins, further highlight their dedication to preserving these seabirds.
